1/144 HG Gundam Age-3 Orbital

1/144 HG Gundam Age-3 Orbital Review

What's Included:
9X Runners (If you count polycaps)
1X Medium Sticker Sheet
1X Manual

The 2nd release of the Age-3 line. There is in total 3 forms, Normal, Fortress, and Orbital. The Orbital was released first because they wanted it to get more attention than it had on the anime.

Detail

The detail put on this model is indeed top notch you won't see any problems there. It actually used quite a lot of stickers here and there. So it definitely is good in its own way but just being detailed won't make it good enough. Let me show you more.

Proportion

The proportion on this guy is slightly off. I am not talking about the waist either. The legs are very frustrating to work with. The basic problem is the feet were made to be put in that 90 degree angle if you know what I am talking about. However if you put it in a standing pose it looks so amazingly awkward because of its true height so yeah. Basically its good and all but never remove it from the stand it came with. You will regret making it stand on its own feet.

Articulation

The arm has full movement in 180 degrees give or take. However there is just too much "junk in the trunk" in the back so the legs can't move as far back.

Weapons

It comes with one rifle. I believe its a slim version of the Sig Maxis rifle but I could be wrong. It also comes with 2 beam sabers and 2 beam hilts. You have an option of letting it hold them or make its wrists hold the beam sabers. Overall the wrist option makes it look cooler so I recommend that option.

Accessories

It basically comes with a stand where you can let it hold the mobile suit form or the vehicle forms. Which is what that blue piece is. That is required if you decide to put it in vehicle form which I highly urge people not to do so unless you have 2. The vehicle forms are just weird and awkward. As for the hands surprisingly it doesn't come with much. 2 open fists so it can hold the rifle/beam sabers and one open hand for the left.

Comparison

Ok short and simple if you have not yet obtained a HG Age-3 I recommend you go with the Normal. It just has better features and design compared to the Orbital. The Orbital is based on slim/fast speed designs but it just has something missing about it that really makes it less satisfying for me. The Normal is also taller so take a note of that. In terms of the comparison however almost everything is the same for both models. However I feel the Orbital has more improved moldings of certain parts so it doesn't match exactly but the looks there. Both are definitely great models if you new to Age so you won't regret getting either but I am leaning more towards the Normal.

Conclusion

For speed the design makes sense but overall the model doesn't quite have a promising look in my opinion. I recommend it if you want it for the design that it is trying to represent but overall you will probably be happier with the HG Normal. I sure am. Now that I have both I am going to make the Normal hold 2 beams sabers in it's hand and 2 in it's wrist so pro bono there right?
